About Friends Of Orpington Priory & Gardens
Orpington Priory & Gardens is a 'hidden gem' in the historic heart of Orpington, close to the thriving commercial centre.
The Grade II listed Priory Gardens has been a public park since 1952; mostly created in the late-19th century they reflect influences of the Arts & Crafts Movement and last private owners' interest in Italian Gardens.
The 14-acre landscaped gardens, pleasure park and ponds where the River Cray rises enhance the setting of The Priory, a medieval Grade II* listed Rectory and C20th former Orpington Library designed by Seely & Paget.
Bromley Council's appointment of id verde to manage and maintain the borough's parks affords the Friends a fresh opportunity to inform, influence and be involved in restoring Priory Gardens to their former glory.
The Friends of Orpington Priory & Gardens welcomes new members and volunteers interested in conserving the town's heritage gardens.
