This summer, Orpington Village Hall Charity Trust Director, Bobby Shirley, is cycling from North Downs to North Spain to raise funds for the Halls' Dementia & Friendship Cafe.
Orpington Village Hall is committed to hosting cafes throughout the year for those with Dementia, their friends, families and carers, and those looking for friendship. The cafes are free to attend - funded completely by OVH through revenue achieved by hiring out the halls, grants, and donations.
The cafes have been extremely successful, but with their popularity comes increasing pressure on funding.
With Bobby's own company funding logistics - every penny donated to this fundraiser will help Orpington Village Halls continue to put on the cafes to he same high standard, with entertainment, refreshments, and activities.
Bobby sets off from Blue Bell Hill on August 3rd, travelling from Dover to Calais via ferry. From there he will cycle through Abbeville, Le Mans, Niort and Royan, along the west coast of France to Biarritz, and finally to Hendaye, crossing the border into Spain and the town of Irun.
The whole journey is some 760 miles and is predicted to take 5 days.
Bobby said, "Thanks to everyone who has donated so far - it really is going to a brilliant cause. The messages of support I have received are hugely appreciated, and I'm looking forward to taking on the challenge!"
