Celebrating Orpington with London Festival of Architecture

With the London Borough of Bromley selected as a key destination for London Festival of Architecture 2024, Orpington 1st Business Improvement District (BID) is working in partnership with other local organisations to deliver a range of events throughout June.

The London Festival of Architecture (LFA) is a month-long celebration of architecture and city-making, taking place every June across London.

Now in its twentieth year, LFA’s mission is to open discussions around architecture, test new ideas and promote emerging talent, bringing together the public and built environment professionals for the whole month. Under this year’s ‘Reimagine’ theme the festival seeks to inspire and engage with a programme that showcases London as a global architecture hub, with an aim to move towards a more equitable, sustainable city.

As part of a boroughwide programme, Orpington 1st BID is working with London South East Colleges, Friends of Priory Gardens, V22 and the creatives based at the Priory, Bromley Libraries, Priory Live Music Festival, Orpington & District Archaeological Society, and Bromley Council. - to celebrate the area’s USPs, such as the Grade II listed Priory and Gardens just one minute walk from Orpington High Street.

Your Bromley, and Penge SE20 BIDs, and Chislehurst Society are also taking part in the festival.

Councillor Yvonne Bear, Executive Councillor for Renewal, Recreation and Housing, said: “There is such a rich history to be explored across Bromley, especially through our beautiful buildings and spaces, so I am delighted that residents will again get the opportunity to explore such sites as part of the London Festival of Architecture. It is with thanks to our Business Improvement Districts as well as Chislehurst Society that we are able to deliver this exciting programme, with these organisations delivering much important work to enhance and sustain our borough.”

The LFA says “What makes the LFA unique is that the LFA programme is people-led and curated by event organisers; we believe in the power of collaboration with the people who live, shape, and truly know London. It’s the breadth and creativity of this community of event organisers that delivers such a varied and engaging programme of events for the festival each June.”
