The Priory and Old Library will be opening its doors later this month, as part of Open House Festival 2022 - a two week celebration of London’s housing, architecture and neighbourhoods. The Priory's studios will be open to the public on the 17 and 18 September from 10 am till 5 pm.
The Priory's Grade II listed building and gardens date back to 1270. Following the dissolution of Christ Church Priory in Orpington in the 1530s, the house became a rectory.
V22, a shared ownership art organisation which specialises in the collection of contemporary art, the production of exhibitions and events, and the provision of artists’ studios, became the official custodians of the Priory and adjoining building in 2016, and a number of creatives now work from the building.
On 17 and 18 September, visitors are invited to come along and:
- Learn about the history (hourly tours with Orpington and District Archaeology Society)
- Meet the artists the building is home to today
- Check out the Community Space
- Look at items created in the studios and books for Sale!
- Meet Orpington History organisation, Bromley Borough Local History Society
