Orpington May Queen Group call for new recruits

A local community group setup some seventy-five years ago to keep up May Day traditions is inviting local children to be part of celebrations for 2024.

With Spring fast approaching, planning for this year’s crowning ceremony is well underway and the Orpington May Queen Group are calling for more budding dancers to get involved.

Through the Easter holidays, the Orpington May Queen group will learn several traditional dances using the same steps and music as children three quarters of a century before them. The dances will then be performed on crowning day in Orpington’s Priory Gardens on 4th May, as well as local fetes and fayres over the summer.

Parents whose children aged 4 - 14 years old might like to join Orpington May Queen can visit orpingtonmayqueen.co.uk/join-us for more details.
